Butt House – Keld

We arrived at our final B&B of the trip, Butt House in Keld. This had a different feel to the other places we stayed in that it was actually like walking into someone else’s home and we were immediately made to feel welcome. Downstairs was a dining room and a sitting room, which was very welcoming. This B&B is licensed – lucky, as there’s really nothing else in Keld.

We dropped our rucksacks and bags (pleased to see them there again!) in our beautiful rooms, again very modern, and headed out into the garden to have a well earned pint whilst admiring the view back towards Rogan’s Seat. We sat in the sunshine for a while and then headed to our rooms. After a soak in the bath we went down for dinner. We were eating at Butt House – there was nowhere else in Keld. As we came downstairs we were met by the family/owners and offered drinks. We sat in the lounge and were served our drinks, it was very homely.

When we went to sit at the dinner table the only other guest was seated at our table with us. The owners, being very sweet, didn’t want him to eat alone. We started with garlic mushrooms, followed by chicken with cream and white wine sauce. I finished with the cheese and biscuits, all lovely home cooked food.

After another excellent night’s sleep – all be it in separate beds for me and Beaky! – we got up for another fabulous breakfast. Again a choice of cereal, juice, yoghurt and a cooked breakfast. Poached eggs on toast were a winner for me, cooked exactly as requested.

We picked up our lunches before leaving. Lunches here were the most expensive at £6.50. The sandwich choice was ham, tuna or cheese. When we opened our lunches they contained sandwiches, crisps, chocolate biscuit, fruit, gorgeous lemon cake, but no drink. The cake was to die for!
