Tennant Arms – Kilnsey

Our first walk of 2011 was done and dusted so we popped in to the Tennant Arms for a quick drink to celebrate. The inside was neat and tidy and whilst I had changed, L’Autobus were still in muddy boots.

Not to worry as there was plenty of stone flooring and signs to indicate walkers were ok as long as they stuck to them. We got our drinks and moved through into one of the side rooms where we sat down and ordered some sandwiches. Read the rest of this entry »

Walk 20: Pastures New

Kilnsey taken from Conistone

route: new pasture edge trig point from kilnsey
date: 22 January 2011
distance: 7.2 miles
ascent: 1,058 feet
time: 3 hrs 50 mins
walkers: dave, leanne and sandra

Our first walk of 2011 and the lowest turnout so far. It could be that people were just busy, or possibly it was to do with it being the middle of January, maybe and more worryingly, it may be that people are losing interest. Whatever the reason, and I hope it isn’t the later, I was ready to go once again. With the Yorkshire tops finished last year we had new goals to aim for. The 214 Wainwrights were now being looked at, although they wouldn’t be on the agenda often due to the distance we would have to travel. The majority of our walks for early 2011 will be to tick of trig points in the Yorkshire Dales. We had already done some of these as they are found on many of the higher Yorkshire tops. We did North Nab at the back end of last year leaving my tally of 18 of 54 done. Today would be number nineteen and the day was clear but crisp. I may even go as far as to say perfect walking weather (obviously a matter of opinion). We were going to park in the Tennant Arms car park but decided against that and ended up leaving the car in a layby between the pub and the crag. Read the rest of this entry »

Now for those of you that have been following, you’ll know that I’m not too clever at getting up at 6.30am on a Saturday, so when Dave suggested another walk, I must’ve been feeling particularly perky to agree to go along. However this was not the case when the alarm went off and I had to get up. It was hard work following a two month break since we completed the Yorkshire Tops. Read the rest of this entry »

The Station – Ribblehead

After just completing our 40 peaks challenge we nipped in to the Station Inn to celebrate with a well earned beer. We managed to bag a big table under the window which looked out towards the peak we had just conquered.

Whilst buying the drinks I noticed some pork pies for sale on the bar. Having worked up an appetite I plumped for the pork and black pudding pie which was delicious. Read the rest of this entry »

And so the day had arrived. Today would be the day that five of the Rambling Badgers would complete the Yorkshire tops tick list. Those five would be myself, Wu Tang, Beaky, Ramblo and last but by no means least, Sherpa G-String. It had been a long year in one sense but not in another. I had enjoyed everything we had experienced before today. Sure some walks were better than others, and some days I was happier than others but overall it had been a fantastic experience and an achievement I can’t honestly say I thought I would ever do. We parked up in the layby opposite the path that would take us beyond the viaduct and up to Whernside. The day was overcast with the threat of rain very much in the air but at this stage of the year we had seen it all. Read the rest of this entry »
