The first of the 33 (one day to become 40) peaks had been completed and as the troops descended Great Whernside back into Kettlewell, one of the advantages of this village, is that we had a choice of pubs to frequent. With no actual science employed, it was decided that the Blue Bell Inn would be today’s choice.
The bar area was full of locals having their Sunday lunchtime fill, so we moved along into the next room, a bit of a lounge I suppose. Due to the numbers involved in this first walk, we were all very cosy around two tables pushed together, along with all our rucksacks.
Despite the room feeling a little like somebody’s living room, the beer was cold, and the atmosphere warm, a grand end to day where the snow was still several feet atop Great Whernside. Can’t give you any insight into prices as Sir Edmund paid…
