The Scafell Hotel was our choice of pub after we had walked Castle Crag and to be honest with the walk only being 2 and a bit miles long I think we all had one eye on the pub from the start. That said we walked into a hotel next door first believing it to be a pub only to quickly have to retrace our steps when we realised.
We soon entered the Scafell Hotel and as we did the first thing to note was the place was packed. So busy in fact we weren’t going to have room to sit down, but just as we prepared for a stint at the bar a table appeared in the corner and I sent the pathfinders to secure our spot. A quick glance over the menu was enough to convince us to order and the food that was being served backed up that decision. In all honesty we had decided this morning we were having a pub lunch but better to have one you want than force one down because that is the plan. The food was substantial and tasty in equal measure and washed down by a couple of cheeky pints which capped of a lovely excursion. The pub had begun to empty a little by the time we left but it still had a good atmosphere as the walkers and cyclists chatted away. I think this may be a pub we visit again one day, although when that will be, I have no idea.
