Carol’s Yorkshire Tops Questionnaire

1. Favourite Peak.

Wild Boar Fell was my favourite. I found being close to the edge and the big drop both scary and exhilarating. It was one peak that certainly had the wow factor!

2. Least favourite peak

I couldn’t choose between Fountains Fell, South Top and Darnbrook Fell. I don’t think any of them had much character.

3. Most enjoyable walk

I really enjoyed the Great Knoutberry Hill walk from Dent Station. It was a good all round walk with decent views and the fantastic viaduct on the way back down before following the lovely river back to our starting point.

4. Least enjoyable walk

The walk I enjoyed least of all is the walk that took in Fountains Fell, Fountains Fell South Top and Darnbrook Fell. The walk itself didn’t really have much to it and I found it a little boring.

5. Greatest moment

I have to go back to the very first walk and being stood on top of Great Whernside. The tops were covered in deep snow and it looked amazing. My daughter Charlotte was with us which was nice too. Apart from that a great moment is anytime I get my boots off.

6. Worst moment

I didn’t really like the climb from Outhgill up Mallerstang Edge to high Seat. It was very steep and scary. The other thing I really didn’t like was the Nine Standards Rigg walk as we got so wet and I was really cold. Not nice!

7. Best or worst animal / creature related incident

There were loads of dead rabbits in the winter months which wasn’t nice. I liked seeing the frog or toad spawn in puddles as we went into spring. The giant sheep that came out of the fog on top of the Howgills also deserve a mention.

8. The most amazing thing I saw was

I thought the plane that tipped his wings to us as we waved from the top of the Howgill Fells was pretty special. The steam train we saw on the Wild Boar Fell walk was also pretty good.

9. The one place in the Yorkshire Dales I would love to sit on a sunny day without a care in the world would be

I think it would be the top of Great knoutberry Hill. I thought the views were lovely and if the day was nice then I think it would be a lovely place to soak up some sun.

10. Things I have discovered about myself

I don’t like steep climbs. I don’t mean physically but the climb up High Seat was scary and I didn’t like it.

11. Walking ambition

I would love to climb Scafell Pike and stand on top of England, but only in good weather!
