The Woodroffe Arms – Hope

So we wandered down to the Peak District to blow a few cobwebs off from the festive period…but of course at the end of the walk we had to visit a local hostelry! And The Woodroffe Arms was ideally situated bang next door to the car park in Hope. Luckily we had made the walk last just about long enough for the 12noon opening time, and we were greeted with a roaring open fire to our right, as Sir Edmund approached the bar. Stella and Carling Cold were on draught for the lager lovers, Guinness, Greene King and Stones (yes seriously, they still do sell Stones somewhere) for the stout and bitter lovers.

A Carling Cold, a Greene King, a diet Coke, a lager shandy and a half Guinness were accompanied by the usual half hundred-weight of crisps (Scampi Fries, Bacon Fries, Monster Munch – pickled onion and beef for anyone interested) and Sir Edmund was 15 quid lighter, as we settled down next to the fire.

The pub itself was nothing out of the ordinary, but with the surrounding hills being so popular, I dont think it needs to do anything special to pull in the punters.

Due to other festive arrangements later in the day, we just had the one…well apart from Sir Edmund, who always has time for an extra pint!! A nice pub, in a wonderful location, we departed in order for the landlord to get back to doing his crossword behind the bar…
